Acupuncture has moved from a branch of Chinese medicine which was considered to be alternative medicine in the UK into a complementary practice which is widely used and accepted within Western medicine.  In some cases it transforms peoples’ lives and as a result it is enjoying increasing popularity and acceptance by orthodox medical practitioners.

Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture

These ancient Chinese cosmetic treatments are intended to work on a number of levels:

The Chinese theory is that beauty as well as health comes from within and that our face and skin are a reflection of our inner spirit, and physical health. Chinese beauty treatments have been for thousands of years with the aim of preventing the onset of wrinkles and facial lines.

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture involves very fine needles which are inserted into acupuncture points on the face and scalp with the aim of promoting relaxation of muscles and stimulating muscle tone.

The face has numerous acupuncture points and targeting these is designed to increase the flow of blood to the skin in that area, hydrating it and increasing the skin’s supply of nutrients and oxygen, to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and blemishes. Acupuncture is believed to help stimulate the production of collagen which is important to skin health. Increased collagen has the effect of reducing lines and wrinkles

Cosmetic acupuncture is intended to also:
  • Improve tone and elasticity of the skin (reducing bags around the eyes, face and neck, along with puffiness and firming the jaw-line).
  • Reduce and soften deep lines and wrinkles and even eliminate fine lines.
  • Lead to smoother, softer skin and improved facial colour.
  • Brighten the eyes and help to lift drooping eyelid.
  • Reduced stress evident on the face.
This protocol is designed to relax the person fully, whilst addressing specific facial concerns directly and correcting underlying health needs.

Each session lasts about 2 hours. For the best results, a series of 10-12 sessions is recommended, once or twice a week, over a period of 3 months to allow for lasting results. During this time, your acupuncturist will also address any health issues that contribute to beautiful skin. However, a short term quick fix can be achieved in one or two treatments.

“Acupuncture before and after embryo transfer results in higher pregnancy rates”*

*Results from a study in Germany (Paulus & Zhang) found that including acupuncture in the treatment protocol of IVF patients may increase their chances of becoming pregnant. Ideally acupuncture treatment starts prior to an IVF cycle, however excellent results have been shown when given at certain times during the IVF cycle.
