The most effective antidote to avian flu is Tamiflu. It is available from Doctorcall at £50 per dose. To purchase supplies or for more information, call Peter Mills on 0844 264 0421.
What is Tamiflu? How does it work?
It is in tablet form and administered by mouth.
It can be used to treat adults and children over one year old whose flu symptoms have started within the previous 48 hours. It is vital to administer it early as its effectiveness appears to diminish if it is delayed after this.
It reduces or eliminates symptoms, permitting people to carry on working or return after only a short absence. By neutralising the virus it also reduces the chances of getting flu and prevents it spreading to colleagues or family.
It was developed by a specialist biotech company called Gilead based in California, USA. The medical name is Oseltamivir phosphates.
It uses an extract from the star anise plant found mostly in south west China combined with a number of chemicals.
It is an anti-viral drug that attacks the virus and stops it from spreading inside your body.
Technically it is a neurominidase inhibitor which inhibits an enzyme called neurominidase which is essential if the virus it to replicate itself and prevents the virus leaving the cell it first penetrates – unlike a vaccine which gives immunity by giving a very mild dose of an illness which stimulates the body to produce antibodies which will fight it off in future..
