The Body Mass Indicator
Are you the right weight for your height?
The Body Mass Index – or BMI, for short – is used to quickly and simply determine whether someone is underweight, of normal weight, overweight or obese.
It works by relating your weight to your height and producing a figure for your BMI which you can then compare with what is generally considered medically acceptable. Simply fill in your height and weight in the table below to get your BMI.
Please note that some people who are by nature unusually slim or very stockily built may have a BMI outside the normal limits of acceptability without any need to worry about it. For most people, however, it is a useful guide and if you are outside the limits you should strongly consider taking action. A very high or low BMI is often associated with other medical conditions which may need attention.
If you have a high or low BMI and would like to discuss it, please call us on 020 7291 6666. You can also arrange a health check with us – click here to read about this.
