Botox Treatments
Muscle relaxant injections, of which the best known is botox, work to reduce deeper lines on your face – usually though not exclusively on your forehead and around your eyes – by relaxing muscles in your skin. They can also be used to reduce excessive sweating, known as hyperhydrosis.
Reducing linesOne of the underlying causes of lines is that some of the muscles which move your skin have been used so frequently – when you raise your eyebrows, frown, laugh or smile, they stop functioning as they should. Your skin loses its ability to relax back into place and regain its former smoothness and you develop permanent creases. It’s a condition which develops with age because the problem is cumulative, increasing with the number of times your muscles move, while age also weakens your muscle tone.
An effective solution to this problem is a muscle-relaxant injection (botox) by our Cosmetic Specialist,
Dr Nick Milojevic, into the affected areas of your face through ultra-fine needles. This process usually leaves no mark though there may occasionally be a very small red pinprick which soon disappears.
As your muscles relax, your skin begins to relax and rediscover its natural suppleness, softness and smoothness, a process which takes 2-7 days.
The effects last for up to six months, when the treatment will need to be repeated. However, the effects of the second and subsequent treatments normally last for considerably longer than the original six months.
The injections are normally pain-free. The procedure takes only a short time and there are seldom any side-effects. If you have a job, you can easily have the procedure done in your lunch hour and go straight back to work.
