The European Working Time Directive dictates that night workers should be offered regular medical checks through their work. Doctorcall pioneered the provision of these through a occupational health service questionnaire, with those whose questionnaire throws up an adverse risk factor being referred on to their own GP or our occupational health team for follow up. Our night work occupational health service assessments are carefully thought out by our occupational health medical team to cover the issues important to in night workers, including lone worker issues and conditions that require regular medication taken at specific times.
We screen our occupational health night worker health questionnaires independently and maintaining confidentiality and refer as appropriate. We provide certificates and through our occupational health service, advise you when there is a risk you need to know about. |

Which Screen Should I Book?
- For a member of staff worried about a particular problem or symptom, then you would do better to book a private GP consultation and we will focus on the tests relevant to that issue rather than arranging a full screen.
- If your workforce are largely under 50 and apparently in good health, a Health Essentials screen provides excellent value for money.
- For an older demographic or to provide the best level of reassurance, we recommend a Premier Health Screen.
- We analyse closely the tests available from time to time and select them in for cost-effectiveness / value for money, both sensitivity and specificity and in terms of non-invasive techniques and ease of access. Our health screens are designed to provide an optimal balance of all of these factors
- In individuals in whom additional tests are indicated, these can be added as appropriate.

We also offer a 24/7 counselling helpline and employee assistance programme with a nationwide network of counsellors.
All our occupational health service counsellors are highly qualified, experienced and carefully selected. They work closely with our medical teams so that a medical opinion or prescription can be provided where required.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT treatment, EMDR and personal development sessions all last for 50 minutes. Courses of treatment are between 5 and 20 sessions.
CBT is very helpful in dealing with issues including Stress, Anxiety, Phobias, Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)
CBT for businesses includes stress management, communication skills, presentation anxiety management and work place development.
CBT for personal development focuses on life planning, problem solving, confidence and satisfaction.
Counselling and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
The psychodynamic approach is not solution-focused in the way that CBT is. Instead, it provides a safe and healthy setting where the individual is assisted in understanding themselves and factors affecting how they feel.

Our occupational health service GP Scheme allows free confidential rapid access to our clinics for your employees.

Sickness absence is a real cost and leads to canceled meetings, missed deadlines and has knock on effects on other staff.
A high proportion is due to delay in obtaining simple treatment and our occupational health service GP scheme is designed to address this.
Because staff can attend free of charge, there is no delay pending approval and no issues around confidentiality.
Our occupational health service clinic membership schemes are also excellent for morale and for recruitment and retention. They are often appreciated more by staff than private medical insurance (PMI) despite being a fraction of the cost
Some employers use our occupational health service to offer membership to all staff; others focus on key roles.
Included are:
-
Same-day private GP consultations (up to 4 per year)
-
Inclusive basic medication
-
Inclusive flu vaccination

Flu vaccinations make sense for any organisation. They are proven to reduce absence so they more than pay for themselves in an average year. In addition, as part of your disaster recovery and pandemic contingency planning, they help protect against significant disruption to your organisation and your services. Inflenza vaccination is also a popular staff benefit and provides duty of care.
Doctorcall has vaccinated more people against influenza than any provider outside the NHS. We are very experienced and can provide advice and recommendations to your organisation.
We recommend you place our order early to secure a preferential booking and early bird rates. You can place your order even if you do not yet know the number of staff who want a flu vaccination.
Why Choose Doctorcall:
-
We are very experienced: We provide a nation-wide service to over seven hundred organisations to vaccinate their staff against seasonal influenza.

-
Our emphasis is on flexibility and giving our clients what suits them. We work with you to make your arrangements as convenient as possible, from start to finish.s
-
We come to you – so there is no need to send your employees off site. This keeps things simple, avoids inconvenience and saves staff time.
-
We do everything for you: We help you communicate the programme to your staff, we provide you with an on-line booking system so you do not need to schedule your staff to attend for their flu jab, we deliver everything that is required and we remove all waste at the end of the programme. All you need to do is to book the date.
Influenza is a Serious Matter. It's seriousness is often overlooked:
For the Individual
-
The symptoms normally include a high temperature, headaches, weakness and severe body pain. 5-10 days absence from work is common.
-
Flu can also be a trigger for depression and other mental conditions. It can exacerbate heart problems, diabetes, kidney disease, asthma and lung disease. In the worst cases, it can be fatal.
-
Vaccination reduces the incidence of flu by over 80% – and side-effects are very rare.
For the Organisation
The consequences of a flu outbreak, epidemic or pandemic differ between organisations. There are, however, a number of common problems:
-
Influenza is one of the few causes of multiple simultaneous absences, making it a business continuity issue
-
Business-critical staff can be identified and protected with a combination of vaccination, antiviral medication and other measures
-
Output can grind to a halt and targets missed
-
The opportunity cost of unplanned disruption can be unquantifiable
-
Staff morale can be damaged by pressure resulting from poor flu contingency planning
-
Customers expect robust business continuity planning

Computershare has developed a world-class reputation for the delivery and registration of servicing solutions for companies across the globe and is heavily reliant on its staff to deliver this. In 2007 the company identified the need to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their pre-employment and long-term sickness screening and appointed Doctorcall's occupational health service, who have been established for over twenty years. The Doctorcall occupational health team was asked to look at how the recruitment and screening processes were currently set up, how they could reduce the number of staff absent from work due to long-term sickness and devise a programme to support them both.

Carphone Warehouse Fight Flu
The Carphone Warehouse Group is an independent retailer of mobile phones and services throughout Europe. They began in 1989 and with both organic growth and acquisitions they now have over 2,400 stores in 9 countries.
Challenge
Carphone Warehouse is heavily reliant upon its workforce in stores, call centres and support functions to ensure they provide the highest possible service level. Without a fit and healthy workforce, Carphone Warehouse will be unable to provide the necessary service level to customers and risk losing business. With reports of high levels of flu in the past couple of winters, Carphone Warehouse wanted to reduce the chances of their staff catching flu at the same time and potentially being off work for up to 2 weeks. If this happened both sales and the service levels would be negatively affected and lead to a potential loss of business.
Solution
In 2006 Doctorcall, the UK's largest supplier of flu vaccinations was brought in to provide a flu vaccination program at selected Carphone Warehouse sites. This year they decided that they would offer all their staff the option to have a flu jab by using a combination of on site nurses and also by issuing flu vaccination vouchers redeemable at selected high street retailers to their field based employees with the costs covered by Carphone Warehouse. Carphone Warehouse saw this as a vital part of their business continuity planning with the flu vaccination the best chance of protecting against flu.
Results
Carphone Warehouse have seen a reduction in the number of staff who are off with flu symptoms and attribute this as a direct result of the flu vaccination programme. Tony Blakemore, HR Project Manager, from Carphone Warehouse commented ‘We have been pleased with the results over the past 2 years and hope to continue with this programme on an annual basis. We have used Doctorcall for a number of years and their nurses are always professional and they understand our requirements.’
Doctorcall through its occupational health service provide flu vaccinations throughout the UK to companies and individuals. |
