IPL is used for treating unwanted hair, sun damaged skin and spider veins, which are defective blood vessels which have clogged and broken into the skin’s top layer.
Hair Removal
The therapist directs a beam of high-intensity light (IPL) at the hair follicles below the surface of the skin. Hair contains a substance called melanin which absorbs the light and heats up. This heat passes through the hair into the follicle at its root which is damaged so the hair’s ability to grow is drastically reduced, leaving you with permanent reduction of hair. We have both Ellipse and Chromolite/Aculight technology.
Treatment times vary according to the problem being treated and the extent of it. It can take as little as 10 minutes or as long as a couple of hours.
No anaesthetics are required and most people describe the sensation as similar to that of a rubber band snapping onto the skin, followed by a warming sensation lasting a few minutes.
No special precautions are needed. However, it is important to avoid tanning before and between the treatment sessions. Afterwards, you are recommended to limit exposure to the sun and to use sunscreen (minimum SPF 30) for a few weeks.
People with very sensitive skin may benefit from also using a soothing cream for a few days.
