Pneumonia Vaccination with Prevenar 13 and Pneumovax

Doctorcall’s pneumonia vaccination service offers a choice of two vaccines, Prevenar 13® and Pneumovax. Both vaccines provide proven, lasting protection against pneumococcal pneumonia.

Those who have contracted pneumonia, may spend up to a month off work.

Over half of people continue to feel fatigued 3 months after their initial diagnosis, with almost a third of patients still experiencing a cough.

It is thought that up to 1 in every 100 adults develop pneumonia in the UK each year. This could mean that mean that as much as 1% of any workforce is likely to be affected in the next 12 months.

As Pneumonia symptoms are often similar to other types of chest infections, many patients do not realise that they are actually suffering from Pneumonia. Many cases may therefore, go unreported.

Prevenar 13 is a one-off vaccination, so unlike a flu jab, there is no need for annual top-up vaccinations.

It can be given at the same time as a flu jab so it can be added to your exisiting on-site  vaccination programme.

It does not have any seasonal restrictions, so you can arrange your vaccinations at any time of the year.

How Does PREVENAR 13® Work?

The vaccine works by helping the body make antibodies to 13 types of the bacteria Streptococcus pneumonia. Antibodies are used by the body to recognise potentially harmful bacteria so that they can be destroyed before they cause infections. The antibodies should therefore help protect you against infections caused by those bacteria. As with any vaccine, Prevenar 13® will not protect everyone who is vaccinated.
