Your Mycoplasma Genitalium Test Result Is Positive

This means that Mycoplasma Genitalium was detected in your urine and indicates that infection with this bacteria is present.

The test is very accurate and false positive results are therefore unlikely.

Mycoplasma Genitalium is easily treated with antibiotics, typically with either a 5 day course of azithromycin or a 10 day course of moxifloxacin.

We can provide you with the appropriate antibiotic prescription or you can take this result to your local GUM clinic and obtain treatment there.

It is very important that both you and your sexual partner receive treatment, ideally at the same time, to ensure that you do not re-infect each other.

Mycoplasma Genitalium infection clears rapidly with appropriate treatment and you can resume sexual activity 7 days after completing the treatment.

If you would like to take a test of cure you should wait at least 4 weeks after treatment before re-testing.
