Doctorcall’s Visiting Service: FAQs

Doctorcall started the first private visiting service in London in 1989. We are based on Harley Street, Central London, and have a rota of private doctors who can provide home visits 24/7.

  • A rapid home visit can save hours or even days in starting treatment – and the sooner it begins, the sooner you will recover.
  • With a home visit from a private doctor, you can stay in comfort, safety and familiar surroundings and do not need to travel.
  • If you require secondary care, we can provide a referral into the private sector or if we refer you to the NHS it can save you a long wait for triage in Accident & Emergency.

How long will it take for a doctor to arrive?

Our rapid-response home visiting service is designed to get an experienced doctor to you as soon as possible.  The time it takes depends whether there are members waiting to be seen and and prevailing traffic conditions.  You will be given an estimated time of arrival for the doctor when you book your visit.

How qualified are your doctors?

All of our private doctors work with us on a permanent basis. They are all appropriately qualified and experienced to work in both the NHS and in private medical practices / the independent healthcare sector.

Can you provide medicines?

We are a "dispensing practice" and provide a mobile pharmacy service. In many cases the visiting GP can dispense immediate medication. Alternatively, we have access to 24-hour pharmacies who can dispense pharmacy supplies 24/7.

Can you make referrals?

If you need to be referred for hospital or specialist treatment, we can refer you to either a private or NHS hospital and using our network of the top specialists we can arrange private appointments with the leading specialists at short notice.  A good and efficient referral to the right specialist or medical unit can make a huge difference to your medical outcome.

How long have you been operating a private visiting service?

Doctorcall’s visiting service was the first of its kind. Established in 1989, we operate the largest, longest-established, and best-known private GP visiting service in the UK.

What treatments can you offer?

Our experienced doctors provide urgent GP medical care, convenient medical advice and second opinions. We are experienced in holistic treatment, taking into account the special circumstances and needs of our patients.

Can you take blood samples for testing?

In many cases the doctor can take a blood sample on the visit and have it couriered direct to our lab from your address.  In other cases, we can take samples in our clinic in Harley Street. We have a particular focus on diagnostics, with ample physician time backed up by rapid pathology and on-site radiology in our Harley Street clinic.

What locations can you visit?

We can visit throughout London and indeed generally as far as the M25, whether it be your home, office or hotel room.

Can you provide out-of-hours cover for private GPs?

We provide 24/7 medical cover in London for the many private GP practices, clinics and hospitals. Our first-ever home visit in 1989 was on behalf of a private GP. Out-of-hours cover enables private GPs and clinics to offer their patients access to round-the-clock care. We provide practices with a dedicated telephone line, and we provide medical reports to your GP.

Doctor Visits
Whilst we aim to respond promptly, we are not an emergency service. In an emergency, you should call 112 and ask for an ambulance.
